How has it been three years already? So much has changed since 11th November 2019. We’ve lived through the pandemic, had three Prime Ministers, and said goodbye to Her Majesty. Today, to mark our birthday, we’d like to look back to our journey as a charity so far.
Founded by Maureen Elliott, a nurse with over 30 years’ experience in cancer care, Live Well with Cancer was set up to empower anyone affected by cancer to improve their health and wellbeing. Built on core values of We Care, We Empower, We Are a Community, we are formed by people who have been personally affected by cancer.
Whether nurses, patients, or relatives, we are run by people affected by cancer for people affected by cancer.
The heart of our charity is in the workshops, events, and support groups that we run. Free to anyone affected by cancer, including patients, family, friends, carers and healthcare workers, all our sessions started as a direct response to the needs of our community. Whether creative arts or coffee mornings, our sessions provide a safe place for people to learn how to improve the quality of their life and develop social connections and relationships.
Our growing experience in delivering sessions in-person and online helps us to meet the unmet needs of our cancer community. Our focus is on giving people the help they need when they need it. We host our sessions outside of working hours, where existing services already provide invaluable support. Our goal is not to replace these existing services, but to supplement and collaborate with them as we find better ways to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
As a volunteer-led charity, we have relied on the support of our community since the start. Whether beneficiaries, trustees, facilitators, funders, volunteers, customers, donors, or supporters, we’ve loved getting to know everyone who has supported our charity. There are too many people to thank to think of mentioning names. For every one we could name, we would risk not mentioning a dozen more people who deserve it credit just as much.
Instead, we say to everyone who has supported us, THANK YOU! We quite literally could not have done it without you.
Three years into our journey as a charity and Live Well with Cancer has a programme of regular workshops, events, and support groups. As we move forward, we aim to increase our services, with long term goals to have our own wellbeing premises and 1-2-1 nursing support in the community.
For now, we thank you for your support and hope to see you at one of our workshops, events, and support groups soon. Join us for our birthday coffee morning and/or Christmas Fayre to help celebrate our charity’s third birthday.
If you’d like to help our charity raise vital funds, please support us by buying our products Christmas cards and calendars at: www.livewellwithcancer.co.uk/shop. Every penny raised from sales helps us empower anyone affected by cancer to live with and beyond a cancer diagnosis.
Because together, we can live well with cancer.
